In 2003 I started writing Fan Fiction for Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. Those weren’t half as fun as the essays I wrote dissecting the show. I didn’t want to be writing about someone else’s characters. i wanted to be able to play with them.
Spring 2005 I accepted I was a writer and started investing time and money (in the form of a pretty iBook) into my craft. Fall 2007 I participated in my first National Novel Month and wrote nearly 60,000 words of a story that would go through several incarnations to become The Mark of Abel. Now I belong to several writers groups; help moderate chats, workshops and pitch appointments; and attend conferences. I always make room for writing and reading. |

WritingLike every other writer, I can’t remember not writing. Stories and angst-filled poems in high school. Plays in college. Then I took a break and barely read or wrote for over ten years. In 2003, I realized I was a writer and have been working at my craft.

ReadingI came to urban fantasy via Laurell K. Hamilton’s Anita Blake. From there it was Patty Briggs and Kelley Armstrong. Then I shifted to paranormal romance. Sherrilyn Kenyon had me from word one. At my first RWA Conference, I was introduced to the works of Kresley Cole and Gena Showalter.
Now I can’t count the urban fantasy and paranormal romance series I’m addicted to. (well I could, but I’d have to get out my iPod touch) |
