When I was in Kindergarten we were given a picture of a dog to color in. The teacher stressed we had to color in between the lines. I colored everything but the dog, saying the edge of the paper was a line, and I colored between it and the lines of the dog. Thus started my scholastic career. I’m sure more than a few of my teachers went home and complained and/or laughed with their families about my interpretation of the rules and their directions.
A very good friend in high school said, “You don’t think outside the box. You blow the thing up.” Sometimes boxes need exploding. That’s what I’m here for. I have a whole bag of C4 and I’m not afraid to use it. I am blessed with people who treasure my eccentricities or at least put up with them.

I dedicate The Mark of Abel to D, M, and J my three favorite letters.
These letters are the first letters in the names of the important people in my life:
My best friends, without whom there not only wouldn’t be a book, but wouldn’t be a me.
My alpha beta, who whether she wants to admit it or not is Super Mom.
My husband and two daughters for all the support and not making me feel guilty
My parents for raising me to value thinking
